September 8th, Atlassian announced a significant change: Their Data Center products will reach “End of Life” on March 28, 2029. This is an important update for many organizations, and we at Computas Opus want to give you a quick and clear overview of what this means.

What does “End of Life” mean in practice?
Atlassian will end all support for several of their Data Center products and associated apps. After March 28, 2029, you can no longer expect technical support, security updates, or further development of these products. They will become read-only.
Here are the most important dates you should be aware of:
- March 30, 2026: New customers will no longer be able to purchase Data Center subscriptions or apps.
- March 30, 2028: Existing customers will no longer be able to purchase new Data Center subscriptions or expansions.
- March 28, 2029: All support ends, and the products become read-only.
The affected products include Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bamboo, and Crowd, all in their Data Center versions. For those of you who use Bitbucket Data Center, there is a separate arrangement. Atlassian is launching a new license that gives you access to both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud.
Why is Atlassian making these changes?
Atlassian explains that they want to adapt to a new era of AI and increased security needs. To deliver the innovation of the future, they need a modern, unified cloud platform. Atlassian believes that the cloud offers you, the customer, several benefits, including faster development of new features, reduced costs, and seamless integration of AI into your workflows.
They point out that 99% of their customers are already using cloud-based solutions or are in a transition phase. Since the end of Server support, Atlassian has made significant investments in the cloud platform, which has included:
- Tripling user scale: Now supporting up to 150,000 users on a single Confluence site.
- Expanded compliance and data residency: Supporting new regions and industries.
- Strengthened security: Thanks in part to a partnership with Google Cloud.
Atlassian emphasizes that migrating to the cloud is the best way for you to stay competitive. They also understand that some organizations face unique challenges and have therefore committed to offering extended maintenance for certain Data Center customers in special cases.
